Ride Operator Responsibilities
Team members are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all amusement rides in accordance with City of Raleigh and NC Department of Labor policies and procedures.
Staff also perform Recreation Aide I duties such as operating pedal boats, carnival games, and the parking greeter position, in addition to maintaining cleanliness of park areas, assisting with event operations, equipment set‑up, and other tasks as assigned.
All work is performed under the supervision of a Facility Manager and Park Assistants. Light maintenance and upkeep of rides and equipment are part of the role.
Position requires full first‑aid training and the ability to respond to emergencies such as amusement accidents, guest incidents, evacuations, and fires.
Safety, excellent guest service, and efficiency are the highest priorities in this role. All candidates must be 18+ to operate mechanical amusements as per NCDOL requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Present a professional and welcoming appearance and attitude
- Perform in a variety of positions as assigned on a daily basis
- Complete and organize daily paperwork
- Conduct pre‑opening and closing tasks such as safety walks and inspections
- Facilitate parking operations by engaging and directing guests as they arrive
- Engage guests and respond to inquiries about the park
- Demonstrate efficiency and accuracy in ticketing and attendance record‑keeping
- Administer consistent admission policies and ride safety standards
- Display courtesy towards all guests
- Identify and resolve load‑balancing issues on rides
- Communicate ride safety instructions clearly and consistently
- Uphold all safety standards and guidelines before, during and after the ride
- Recognize potential safety issues during the ride and be prepared to act
- Uphold cleanliness of guest areas and work locations throughout the park
- Maintain order and provide clear direction during emergency situations
- Communicate with supervisors about stocking, maintenance and guest issues
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation for special events and shelter rentals, including set‑up and inspection of equipment and recommending maintenance
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings at various locations throughout the city
Qualifications
Applicants should be well‑rounded, outgoing, organized self‑starters who enjoy working with diverse populations, large crowds, and children. Demonstrated personal maturity, communication, and guest service skills are required, along with confidence in conflict resolution.
Ability to communicate clearly and consistently in English is required. Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and willing to conform to the facility’s uniform and grooming policy.
Work shifts fall within varying seasonal hours throughout the year, requiring flexibility and willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, rentals, and special events. The amusement facility operates seven days a week.
Physical Requirements
- Able to move equipment, push, pull, and lift
- Able to stand for up to eight (8) hours at a time
- Able to work in a considerably noisy environment
- Must have full use of arms and legs to operate equipment, climb stairs, and possess bimanual dexterity
- Able to work outside during warm and cold months
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects
- Must have eyesight of at least 20/30 with or without correction
- Must be able to hear at least 40 decibels in an environment producing 500–4000 hertz
- Must perform movements such as balancing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and talking
